Van Parijs Gallery
Belgian Artist Johanna Van Parijs is a young artist working in mixed media with a refreshingly new take. She use found items from her past such as a swatch of materials from a childhood item of clothing or a black and white photograph. Combining tropical elements from her current place of residence in Costa Rica, she layers her work into what begins as collage but elevated into something greater. Painting over these elements she combines past with present in an inclusive manner that makes the viewer feel very much part of the work. These historical items and notions lay bare the man-made construct of time. Johanna is at her core, a healer. Dismantling this construct is paramount in her work.
